London has so much to offer but the city is also known for its ridiculous prices. Tickets for sights like the London Eye or St. Paul’s Cathedral cost about 20 GBP which is pretty expensive. Living in London made me realize that there are also some amazing places to visit that are completely free of charge. Here are my top 6…

1) Sky Garden

The Sky Garden is my new favourite because the idea of a garden on the top floor of one of London’s most famous landmarks – the “Walkie Talkie Tower” – and the view from the balcony is simply amazing. You can see the Shard, the London Eye, the Gherkin, Tower Bridge, Canary Wharf etc. from there. Those are pretty much all popular sights and the best is that it is all for free. The only thing you have to do in advance is to book the free tickets for a particular day and point of time. I’ve published a blog post about my Sky Garden experience. 2) Primrose Hill and Parliament Hill

Primrose Hill and Parliament Hill are two of my favourite spots in London, not only because the parks are great for a Sunday morning stroll but also for the view over London’s skyline. Both hills are located in North London. Primrose Hill is just above Regent’s Park and Parliament Hill is part of Hampstead Heath. For both parks take the Northern Line and get off at Chalk Farm for Primrose Hill and at Hampstead for Parliament Hill. In this blog post you can find some more photos of Primrose Hill and get an impression of the beautiful park and the stunning view.

3) A Stroll Through Notting Hill

Notting Hill is probably best known for the movie with Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. The movie is amazing but walking around the neighbourhood of Notting Hill is even better. The beautiful white town houses and the cherry blossom trees are absolutely worth a Saturday or Sunday morning stroll in spring. That’s what I did a couple of times and it made me so happy. 4) A Stroll Through Hyde Park/Regent’s Park etc.

London’s parks are so beautiful! Especially on a sunny weekend day where you see joggers, families with children, people with their dogs etc. Literally every Londoner spends a few hours of such a spring day in one of London’s gorgeous parks. Hyde Park is probably the most famous and popular one but as I said parks like Regent’s Park or Hampstead Heath offer stunnig views so you actually have 2 in 1: a lovely park and a gorgeous view over the city. Another park that I can recommend is St. James’s Park. I always like to walk from Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament through St. James’s Park to Buckingham Palace (blog post here).

5) Abbey Road

Abbey Road is an iconic place in the history of music, famous for the zebra crossing and the album cover of The Beatles where Paul, John, Ringo and George were walking over the exact same zebra crossing. On our celebritiy tour through London (blog post about it here) I got to know that the zebra crossing was actually moved to another spot further away from the junction because of some accidents. But there are still a lot of Beatles fans coming to take a photo walking across the zebra crossing, emulating their idols and getting a sneak peak of the Abbey Road Studio where many Beatles hits were recorded and produced.
