After my interview with Spanish model River Viiperi I thought it’s time to do another one. This time I asked Italian model Andrea Denver and I was super excited that he was interested. For those of you who don’t know him, Andrea Salerno (better known as Andrea Denver) was born on May 3, 1991 in Verona, Italy and is one of the most successful models in the fashion industry. He has worked with brands such as Hugo Boss and MAC Cosmetics and was also featured in music videos of Taylor Swift and Jennifer Lopez.
I would like to thank you, Andrea, for taking the time to answer my questions. I am so happy with the interview and I’m sure my readers will love it as much as I do 🙂
WORK
Alissa: You’re young but already very successful. Could you tell me a bit more about how your career as a model started?
Andrea: So the first time I got scouted in a supermarket in LA when I was 16 while I was with my parents in vacation during the summer. At the time I was really young and I was still in school so I couldn’t do it. Then at 18 the same thing happened in Italy and I started modeling for a few months but I stopped right away because more focus on my university. When I graduated from university I moved to the United States and at the age of almost 23 I started again but this time seriously. Now I am two weeks away from my 25th birthday.
Alissa: What do you like most about your job as a model?
Andrea: I like the fact that I met and I can meet a lot of interesting people.
Alissa: You’ve been featured in Taylor Swift’s music video for her song “Blank Space” and in Jennifer Lopez’s video for “I Luh Ya Papi”. What was it like to be on set with those two musical icons?
Andrea: I was really excited. I am always been a big fan of both of them but when I had the chance to work with Taylor Swift I couldn’t even believe it since she has always been my celebrity crush ahah.
Alissa: What has been your favorite moment in your modelling career so far?
Andrea: I mean there is more than one favorite moment. For sure I had a great time shooting the Mac cosmetics campaign and the Hugo boss bodywear one. But then had a lot of fun on the set of “I luh ya Papi” with Jlo and when I shot the brooks brother campaign riding a bicycle.
TRAVEL
Alissa: As a model you get to travel a lot and as I am also a travel blogger I would really like to know what your top 3 favorite cities in the world are and why?
Andrea: I almost never travel for modeling and I actually love that because mostly everytime you guys see me on plane is for fun. I literally love traveling and visiting new places. Since I was a child I used to travel everywhere in the world with my parents. My 3 top cities? LA, I love the vibe there, Paris, my favorite city in Europe and Florence, so much history and art there. But I really love living in Nyc 🙂
Alissa: You left your home in Italy to pursue your career. What was it like to move to New York City and how is living there?
Andrea: It wasn’t a big change because I already knew the city since I have been here before for vacation multiple times. For sure I wasn’t really excited at the start because I would have preferred the California beach life but then I ended up falling in love with Nyc and I am so glad I live here!
Alissa: What are your favorite places in NYC?
Andrea: I love everything about Nyc. Central Park and the soho area (that reminds me a little bit of Europe) are my favorite places.
Alissa: Do you want to live in NYC for the rest of your life or do you see yourself back in Europe in a couple of years as Europe is your original home?
Andrea: I think at some point I will go back to Europe. I do like here a lot and I think is the funniest place to be at when are you in your 20’s but I miss the European culture and when it will be the time to have a family I think I would like to have it in Europe. But you never know.
INTERESTS
Alissa: I’ve heard that you can speak a little bit of German. Is that true? Where did you learn it and what can you actually say?
Andrea: I used to be able to say a lot of stuffs in German but I forgot a little. I am still able to have a basic conversation and to understand. I learned when I was in middle school and then I had to study it again for one of my finals exams at the university!
Alissa: Could you tell me one thing that people wouldn’t expect about you? Any hidden talents maybe or a special kind of music you listen to that nobody expected?
Andrea: I think people don’t know anything about me. Even people that I spend days with barely know about my real me. I open myself to just a few people and those people really appreciate the person I am. I wish I could show this to many people but often people care more about how someone looks like more than how that person is inside.
Alissa: Everybody has a bucket list. What is on yours?
Andrea: I prefer to keep it for myself ahah. A lot of people only speak, I honestly like facts.
Alissa: If you had one day on which you could do whatever you want, what would you do?
Andrea: I don’t know if a day would be enough. If I could have a week I would try to do a lot of things. In first place I would love to spend time with people that really need help and support them as much as I could.
LIFE
Alissa: What’s your favorite childhood memory?
Andrea: My entire childhood was amazing. I am so grateful for what my parents gave to me and taught me that I wouldn’t change anything at this point.
Alissa: What was your most memorable day in your life so far – a moment that makes you happy?
Andrea: There is not one memory in particular. What my parents have done for me made me always happy and also a lot of adventures that I had with my close friends back in Italy.
Alissa: Who is your role model and why?
Andrea: I am trying to think but I don’t think I have one in particular.
Alissa: If you could change one thing in your life, what would it be?
Andrea: I just wish I could have been more determined in the past about some choices and has done more about it.
