Today I finally want to introduce you to my absolute happy place in all of Los Angeles − the Griffith Observatory. Every time I visit the City of Angels I have to visit this magical place. Why? Because from there you have the most breathtaking views over the city. Trust me….it’s absolutely gorgeous!

First let me show you how the Griffith Observatory looks like before I tell you more about the views that I love so much. If you’ve seen a documentary about Los Angeles or you follow people who live or travelled to Los Angeles on Social Media you might recognize it. It’s an impressive building in which you can discover so many things.

When you arrive at the observatory look out for the famous Hollywood Sign. When you walk towards the observatory you can see the the popular lettering on the right side in the back of the Hollywood Hills.

My favorite time to go to the Griffith Observatory is in the evening because you can enjoy the view at daytime and you get the chance to experience one of the most amazing sunsets ever because the lights and colors in Los Angeles are simply unique.

Isn’t the view breathtaking?

So far, I’ve never seen more beautiful sunsets than from the Griffith Observatory. And when you go in the evening you also have to stay until darkness because the sparkling lights make you feel like everything is possible in this wonderful city. That’s what I also love about LA – all those people with dreams and ambitions. You always meet the most interesting people because they come to Los Angeles to chase their dreams and being surrounded by such people is the best feeling ever because their stories are inspiring in so many ways. Like I said visiting the Griffith Observatory in the evenings is the best because you get to see three different facets of LA – daytime, sunset and by night.

“[Sebastian:]
City of stars
Are you shining just for me?
City of stars
There’s so much that I can’t see
Who knows?
I felt it from the first embrace I shared with you

[Mia:]
That now our dreams may finally come true”

(Lyrics from the La La Land Soundtrack)

Apart from the gorgeous sunsets which I could rave about for hours, a visit to the observatory is absolutely recommended. It doesn’t matter if you are into astrology or not because it is interesting and fun for everyone. Let me give you some facts about the observatory. At the beginning of the 20th century Griffith J. Griffith had the idea of opening a public observatory so everyone could experience the magic of the sky, the stars and the galaxies. The Griffith Observatory eventually opened its doors in 1935 and is nowadays the most-visited public observatory in the world.

Some of you might actually recognize the entrance hall with the pendulum from the movie “La La Land” with Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. It’s also the place where the final scene of “Rebel Without A Cause” with James Dean was filmed. If you don’t remember the scenes that were filmed at the Griffith Observatory watch the movies again and take a closer look. I love both movies a lot and they also won several Academy Awards (better known as “Oscars”) so that shows that they can be recommended as well.

One tip: It’s better to arrive at the Griffith Observatory a couple of hours before the sunset because especially during summer it can get very crowded and there are not that many parking lots. Or alternatively park your car at the Greek Theater or somewhere nearby and call an Uber. I have never done that before but it would be smarter to take an Uber up to the Griffith Observatory so you don’t have any parking problems.
