Stunning was the first word that popped into my mind when I visited the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild. This beautiful mansion is located in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat and has the most incredible views over the Mediterranean Sea and the perfect garden with a lake, a fountain and a lot of flowers and trees from all around the world. In total there are actually nine gardens: Florentine, Spanish, Garden à la française, exotic, a stone garden, a Japanese garden, a rose garden, Provençal and a garden de Sèvres. And the whole mansion is painted in pastel pink – every girl’s dream house! And of course mine too so I was super excited when I finally decided to visit it.

The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild was constructed between 1905 and 1912 by Baroness Béatrice de Rothschild. When she passed away in 1934 she donated the mansion to the Académie des Beaux Arts so it became open to the public.

All rooms still look like back in the days with the old furniture and chandeliers. It almost feels like a time travel and like she still lives there. I really like this old French interior fitting but as much as I love old mansions, which I really do, I’m a big fan of modern fittings. I love to stroll through these rooms but I would never want to live in it. If the villa was mine I would renovate most of it. With that I mean I would keep the old floors and walls but I would restore them and choose modern furniture. But now let’s stop thinking about remodeling and let’s take a look inside the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild.

My favorite room in the entire house was the bedroom. I mean look at this view! Isn’t it breathtaking!? Can’t you imagine watching the sunrise and sunset there every day? That would be a dream 🙂

And this is the stunning view over the gardens from the main balcony

Like I said the mansion has different gardens with beautiful flora. It has something magical and it is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea which makes the perfect combination! Let’s take a stroll through it 🙂

The estate even has its own grotto! Isn’t it amazing?
