CIMG6117After my A-levels I did an apprenticeship to become a Foreign Language Correspondent for English and Spanish. In the second year, so almost before our final exams, we had to do an internship. Most of my classmates didn’t wanna go abroad but staying in Germany was out of the question for me. Since English has always been my favourite subject in school I wanted to go to an English speaking country. America was too far away and too expensive and I was never really interested in Australia or New Zealand so I decided to move up north to the U.K. So to be precise London it should be. It was 2012 and I had no idea that the Olympic Games should take place in London at the time I was supposed to go there (I’m not really interested in gymnastics and stuff like that so I never cared about the Olympics) so the flat hunting was a real problem. The prices were three times more expensive and most of the accommodations were already booked out. Fortunately we have English neighbours so they contacted one of their relatives living north of London and he said that I could stay with him. I was so happy that one problem was solved. Next thing to organise was an internship. I’ve sent out about 50 applications to various companies. Most of them said that two months are too short for an internship but luckily a graduate of my school said that her former company is looking for interns. I applied and a few days later I had a telephone interview with them. I was very nervous but the woman at the end of the line was very nice and in the end they offered me to come to London and work for them. That meant: accommodation & internship = check.

Arriving in London I was excited for what to come. I’ve have never been away from home on my own for such a long time. I was scared but excited. But in the end the positive thoughts won and my London adventure began.
I had so many things on my mind that I wanted to do whilst there…to go to the Notting Hill Carnival, have drinks with a view, visit the Harry Potter Studios, do a Celebrity Tour and loads more things.

But the first weekend when I arrived I brought my mum and my sister with me because firstly they were able to put some of my stuff in their suitcases (yes I wasn’t able to pack just one suitcase for two months 😉 ) and secondly we could spend some time together in London to do some sightseeing and just enjoy a weekend trip, well at least it was a weekend trip for them…

Stay tuned for part 2 of the sightseeing photos!
