Okay so I decided to publish this blog post despite the madness that is currently going on in the USA. I’ve started writing this blog post before the election because I wanted to share something personal on LLL. If you follow me on Social Media you know that I’m very very sad that Barack Obama is not the President and Michelle not die First Lady anymore because they have changed America for the better. They are such amazing people that only had and still have the life, needs and dreams of every US citizen in mind. I will miss them dearly but I’m sure that they keep working for what they love and that’s why they have founded the Obama Foundation which I’m really excited about.

All that already shows that I’m not a fan of Donald Trump at all because he is the complete opposite of the Obamas. He says bad things about women, disabled people, foreigners, the LGBT-community etc. The list goes on. How can someone like him say “make America great again” when the Obamas have done everything in their power to make American what it is today: a great country! They have introduced Obamacare, there are more young adults who were able to go to university than ever before, they make sure that every child in school gets a healthy lunch. Those are just a couple of things that they’ve done great and those “great changes” are changes for the people. And this is what the politics should be about.

Let’s make it short: You know now what I think about the current political change in the US government but that doesn’t keep me from fulfilling my dream of moving to Los Angeles. I’m not a US citizen so the new president shouldn’t have an effect on me (at least that’s what I hope. Maybe he abolishes the green card and doesn’t let any foreigners stay in the USA for longer than three months) so I hope it’ll all be fine. But I pray to god that the Americans will get what they need: a president who cares about them and not about himself, fame, success and power. All the demonstations and protests that have taken place in the USA and even worldwide (e.g. the Women’s March) in the past couple of days and weeks and just recently the protest against the travel ban show that Trump is definitely not the right president!!!

I actually wrote this article when I was in a good mood, excited about my future and to hopefully get the chance to finally live my own American Dream but now I have no idea what is going to happen… I think we all have to wait and hope for a re-election. That would be the best thing to happen, even though I don’t think it ever will but that would be an enormous step in American history.

Nevertheless here’s what my plans for the next years would be like. Here is the blog post that I actually wrote a couple of weeks ago, here is my American Dream…

I finally did it! Last year (November 2016 to be precise) I’ve taken part in the Diversity Visa Lottery (better known as “Green Card Lottery”).

Ever since I’ve watched “Home Alone 2” which plays in New York, I have wanted to visit the United States. After my A-levels I finally booked flights not only to New York City but also to Los Angeles. Both, the city that never sleeps and the city of angels have taken my heart instantly. NYC is just like a dream: the skyscrapers, the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge and just the general atmosphere in New York. This vibrant city takes your breath away when you stand on top of the Empire State Building, looking down at all the lights by night. Trust me, it is stunning! All that magic happened in 2011 and since then I’ve always wanted to go back to explore more of the city, find some hidden places and get to know the New Yorkers. One day, hopefully soon, I’ll surely be back because there’s still so much that I wanna see.

But apart from that childhood dream of mine we also booked flights to Los Angeles. Visiting LA has always been on the second place on my bucket list so why not extend our trip to NYC when LA is only a 4-hour-flight away? That’s excatly what we did! I have only seen Los Angeles in movies and documentaries, so I pictured the city in my mind. What I have never ever thought is that LA would immediately feel like home for me and that during my first visit. I know that a lot of people prefer San Francisco and say that people on LA are superficial and that the city in general is overrated. I’ve made different experiences. I might agree on the fact that most Americans or people from California are superficial in some way but isn’t it nice to do small talk when you’re queuing in a shop or when you’re trying to figure out how to get to 3rd Street Promenade when you’re at Venice Beach and someone asks you for help? That is not superficial, it’s nice! I understand that it might be difficult to find “real friends” easily but c’mon not all Americans are superficial and being kind to one another (like Ellen Degeneres always says) never hurt nobody, so don’t complain about superficiality and be happy about some small talk or even interesting conversations.

But back to my LA experience: It really was like love at first sight. I loved the weather, the beach, the different neighborhoods, the restaurants/bars/cafés and those positive vibes in general. It’s hard to explain but I just felt so happy and full of energy. I felt like I could do anything in this city and be happy. And I’m not only talking about the feeling that you have on holidays but I felt like I could find a job in LA that I like and live there and be happy because there is so much you can do after work and on the weekends. Or you could even go on weekend trips to San Diego or Las Vegas and explore more of California. But apart from all that I just had the feeling of being in a place where I could imagine to work and live that is completely different to my daily life in Germany, it just felt like is was in the right place, my happy place. I mean my job here is okay but there is so much more that I want in life and that is living my kind of American Dream…to work and live in Los Angeles.

My plan actually is to go to LA in about two years. I still have my full-time job here in Germany and university (I’m studying “International Management” on the side) which I will hopefully finish at the beginning of 2019. I’ve already applied for the Diversity Visa last year because the chances that you will win it are not that high. If I won’t win it this time I will take part again in November 2017. Winning this DV allows you to apply for a visa in the USA which means that if you get it you will be able to work and live in the USA as long as you want (and if Trump still allows it and supports applications for a Diversity Visa).

In spring I will finally get to know if I’ve made it to the next round. So keep your fingers crossed for me please 🙂 Of course I will keep you updated right here on LLL!
