You know that I love visiting fashion exhibitions, if it’s in Paris or London, so when I heard about the ‘Horst – Photographer of Style’ exhibition I had to go there. The other day I met up with my friend Bella in Düsseldorf and we decided to go to the NRW Forum and take a look at the photos of Horst P. Horst. Horst was a German photographer who has become famous through his work with Vogue. Back in the 1930s he was the most popular photographer in the fashion industry. He used to shoot several Vogue covers but also worked with people like Salvador Dalí on photoshoots and took photos of fashion icons like Coco Chanel or Marlene Dietrich.
When Horst P. Horst had a vision of a particular photo or magazine cover in mind he first drew some sketches.
Most of the time when he worked with Coco Chanel he took the photos in her apartment in Paris.
Apart from photos there were also some dresses displayed.
After all those black & white photos we entered an exhibition room full of colored fashion photos from photoshoots or Vogue covers that Horst P. Horst has taken back in the days.
I have to admit that I haven’t heard of Horst P. Horst before but it was fun to see his work as he played an important role in the history of Vogue and the fashion industry.
